Re: Itinerary for U.S. Bishops' Delegation to the Philippines

WASHINGTON—Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, will travel with a delegation to the Philippines, February 2-7, to meet church leaders and relief workers and to survey the needs following the devastation of November's Typhoon Haiyan.

The following is the itinerary of the delegation. All times are local to the Philippines, which is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time:

Sunday, February 2

Arrive in Manila

Monday, February 3

8 a.m. – Briefing on Catholic Relief Service Typhoon Haiyan emergency response

10 a.m. – Mass at the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)

11 a.m. – Meeting with Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle of Manila at his residence

2 p.m. – Meeting with Archbishop Guiseppe Pinto, apostolic nuncio, at nunciature

4 p.m. – Meeting with Archbishop Socrates Villegas, president of CBCP

5 p.m. – Dinner with Bishop Broderick Pabillo, chairman of Caritas Philippines

6:30 p.m. – Return to hotel in Manila

Tuesday, February 4

8:30 a.m. – Briefing on CRS agriculture and peacebuilding programs in Philippines

10 a.m. – Depart for Tacloban

3 p.m. – Tour of Tacloban affected areas around the city

5 p.m. – Mass at Santo Nino Parish, Tacloban, with Archbishop John Du and parish priests

6 p.m. – Dinner at Santo Nino Parish with Archbishop Du and priests of Tacloban

7 p.m. – Return to hotel in Tacloban

Wednesday, February 5

9:30 a.m. – Visit communities to see emergency programs of shelter, livelihoods recovery, and water sanitation and hygiene (WASH)

4 p.m. – Meet with Archbishop Du at Palo Cathedral

5 p.m. – Mass at Palo Cathedral with Archbishop Du and parish priests

6 p.m. – Reception/dinner in Palo with Archbishop Du and parish priests

7:30 p.m. – Return to hotel in Tacloban

Thursday, February 6

9 a.m. – Visit CRS debris removal/cash-for-work and livelihoods projects and affected areas in Palo

11:30 a.m. – Lunch at Palo Chancellery office

12:30 p.m. – Visit to inland areas in need of support

3 p.m. – Depart for Manila

7 p.m. – Return to hotel in Manila, dinner

Friday, February 7

Depart for the United States
