WYD Portugal 2022 will be a chance for pilgrims around the world to come together with the many young people to pray, worship, and celebrate the Catholic faith.
As we prepare, keep in mind the Blessed Virgin Mary who is at the heart of the themes for the upcoming and most recent WYDs:
NOTE: Dioceses, parishes, and other communities are free to adapt the themes, within reason, to integrate their cultural context and local circumstances. As we approach WYD 2020, here are some adaptations of its theme (Lk 7:14):
The United States will certainly have a presence at the international World Youth Day in Portugal. This page will be updated with details on the U.S. involvement with and preparation for this global event. In addition, we anticipate a number of stateside (at-home) WYD celebrations taking place across the USA. More details on those gatherings will be posted on this site.
In the meantime, future leaders and pilgrims - sign up for our Portugal 2022 e-mail newsletter!
If you have further questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Now what? Where do we go next when International World Youth Day has passed? Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland Oregon reminded us during our WYDUSA Prayer Gathering in Krakow on August 27, 2016 that our journey has just begun: "For the Apostles--Peter, James, and John--the important thing was really not what happened on the mountain. The important thing was what came after they came down from the mountain." You are now in the most important past of your journey. Check out our resources to help you down the mountain and live your mountaintop experience in everyday life on our Beyond World Youth Day page.
The USCCB WYD Office (WYDUSA) is happy to collaborate with the Catholic Apostolate Center on its efforts for World Youth Day 2016 and 2019. In particular, we thank them for their efforts with engagement of pilgrimage leaders, sharing of valuable resources and tools, making connections with stateside celebrations, assisting with technology and WYDUSA webinars, hosting the www.wyd2019.us website, and collaborating with national follow-up efforts beyond the WYD experience.

Register to be a part of the National WYDUSA Alumni Network. World Youth Day is not a destination, but it is one point along the pilgrimage of life. As a WYD Alumni, you are still on that journey. Connect with other U.S. citizens who have participated in a World Youth Day event, either stateside or internationally, at least once in the past thirty years since these gatherings began in 1984. Over one-half million people in the USA have been to a World Youth Day event! Are you one of them? If so, connect with the national alumni network today! Find more information and resources on our WYDUSA alumni resources page!
Got questions? Please feel free to contact the National World Youth Day USA Office, within the USCCB Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, with any questions you may have pertaining to international and stateside WYDs, pilgrim preparation, and hosting events. You can also follow the WYDUSA account on Facebook and Twitter, which gives the latest news and updates about upcoming WYD events and initiatives.
