- About USCCB
WYDUSA represents the efforts of the USCCB to connect US pilgrims, who celebrate stateside or abroad, to each international World Youth Day, to enable them to grow and participate in the celebration of youth by the universal Church.

These t-shirts, water bottles, journals, prayer cards, hats, and more are available to pilgrims celebrating abroad and stateside, to unite them across continents in their pilgrimages.
"We must never forget that World Youth Days are not 'firework displays,' flashes of enthusiasm that are an end in themselves; rather, they are stages of a long journey, begun in 1985, at the initiative of Pope John Paul II." (Pope Francis, Angelus message in St. Peter's Square, August 4, 2013 shortly after WYD Rio)
The USCCB endeavors to update the Church in the United States on the "long journey" that continues after WYD – for young people, their leaders, and "alumni" of past encounters – in the everyday experiences of faith, all of which point toward Christ and the Gospel. Seen from this perspective, then, the international World Youth Days are moments where pilgrims gather together in one place every three years to share those lived experiences, learn from one another, renew their commitment to Christ and the Church, and hear from their shepherd, the Holy Father, so that they might be inspired to continue the journey and change the world.
This summer, in preparation for the next international WYD encounter in Panama in 2019, we begin a "Countdown to Panama (the days, hours, and minutes will count down at www.wydusa.org). While January may seem a long way to go, the wait reminds us that the best things in life are rarely rushed – and often best experienced with good discernment, time, and anticipation. Let us take this time to prepare spiritually, mentally, and physically for the international pilgrimage next year to Panama City, Panama.
