Since 1994, generous American Catholics have provided hundreds of thousands of dollars for projects which were submitted to our office by the bishops of Georgia. These efforts have helped the Church in Georgia rebuild itself and begin to live and serve in freedom. The following are just a few examples of past, ongoing, and new projects sponsored through our office.

This project helped with one of the worst practical problems of the former Soviet system: acquiring an adequate place to live.

The renewal of the church in Georgia requires projects like this which make outreach and education a priority.

Caring for the sick and elderly has always been part of the Church's mission. This project in Georgia enabled the Church there to better fulfill its mission.

. . .Support the activities of CARITAS Georgia
CARITAS Georgia does much to look after, serve, and educate the poor and disadvantaged, enabling the Church in Georgia to be faithful to its mission to love and serve the least of Christ's brothers and sisters. Request submitted: $36,000
. . .Support establishment of bakery for CARITAS in Tbilisi
We hope to support the purchase and installment of a bakery run by CARITAS Georgia. The proceeds of the bakery will contribute to CARITAS projects to aid the poor. Request submitted: $20,000
. . .Help the construction of a homeless shelter in Tbilisi
Housing has been a problem that affects all levels of society in Georgia, as in all former Soviet countries, but it is especially difficult for the poorest of the poor. With our help, the Georgian Church is reaching out to them. Request submitted: $52,000

. . .Provide support for CARITAS orphanages
One of CARITAS's most important apostolates is to the poor orphans of Georgia. This project will allow them to continue this much-needed work. Request submitted: $10,000
. . .Help establish a new parish and pastoral center
We will help finish the church in Kahetia and the parish center in Rustavi. The church building is partially completed; the parish center, necessary for pastoral outreach, has yet to begin. Request submitted: $13,230
. . .Support the construction of the coordination center for the Catholic Church in Tbilisi
The building which once housed the Curia and the bishop's residences was confiscated by the communists and converted into an apartment building. The Church is now slowly reclaiming its property. The new center will house the diocesan offices, a theological institute for laymen, and the bishop's residence. Amount requested: $195,000.
