USCCB Celebrates the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2020

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is celebrated annually all around the world. In the northern hemisphere, it is celebrated January 18-25. The celebration has a history of over 100 years. By annually observing the WPCU, Christians move toward the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer at the Last Supper "that they all may be one."  (cf. John 17:21)

Every year, in preparation for the WPCU, ecumenical partners in a particular region were asked to prepare a basic text on a biblical theme. This year, the theme from Malta is "They Showed Us Unusual Kindness." (cf. Acts 28:2)

At the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, staff took part in an ecumenical prayer service on the morning of Tuesday, January 21, 2020, presided over by Msgr. Jeffrey Burrill, Associate General Secretary. Staff of the secretariat were also available all week during lunch hours to raise awareness for Christian unity.
