"We cannot communicate with the Lord if we do not communicate with one another.  If we want to present ourselves to him, we must also take a step towards meeting one another.  To do this, we must learn the great lesson of forgiveness; we must not let the gnawing of resentment work in our soul, but must open our hearts to the magnanimity of listening to others, open our hears to understanding them, eventually to accepting their apologies, to generously offering our own." — Pope Benedict XVI, Homily at Closing of the Twnety-fourth Intalian National Eucharistic Congress, Bari, May 29, 2005..

Promoting Participation in the Sacrament of Penance

On this page, you'll find planning resources for your diocese and parishes for promoting the Sacrament of Penance & Reconciliation, based on the Light Is ON For You campaign.

Bishops' Pastoral Exhortation on the Sacrament of Penance & Reconciliation

The Light is On is an initiative that began in collaboration between the Archdiocese of Washington and the Diocese of Arlington where all Catholic churches across the DC metropolitan area were open for quiet prayer and Confessions every Wednesday evening during Lent. Due to the success of this campaign and the generosity of the Archdiocese of Washington and the Diocese of Arlington, the resources that were developed for The Light is On have been made available to dioceses across the United States. We invite you to use these resources and tailor them for your own diocese so that Churches around the country can invite everyone to experience God's infinite mercy this Lenten season.
